Cancellations, Credits And Refunds

Changes, cancellation requests, refunds and travel credits

Last updated:

This page explains what to review and how to request assistance for a reservation handled through Flightoway. The available outcome depends on the ticket conditions, the reason for the request, supplier responsibilities and applicable law.

A voluntary cancellation is different from a cancellation or significant change initiated by an airline. A nonrefundable fare does not automatically remove refund rights that apply when the provider does not deliver the contracted travel.

1. Check your booking and deadline

Find the booking reference, ticket status, passenger names and fare conditions. Check whether the request concerns a draft, an issued ticket or an itinerary already partly used. Cancellation or change restrictions can differ at each stage.

If departure is close, call the operating airline as well as Flightoway where appropriate. Sending an unanswered email does not necessarily stop a check-in deadline or protect the ticket from no-show restrictions.

2. Information to include in a request

Clearly state whether you want information, an itinerary change or cancellation. Do not authorize cancellation until the effect on the complete booking and the available refund or credit have been explained.

  • Your booking reference and the traveler's name as shown on the itinerary.
  • The affected flight, departure date and passengers or segments involved.
  • The action requested and, for a change, the preferred new dates or route.
  • Relevant airline notices and a contact method for status updates.
  • A request for written confirmation of charges, refundable amounts or credit restrictions before you authorize action.

3. Voluntary changes and cancellations

The selected ticket may allow a refund, permit only a travel credit or have no recoverable value for a voluntary cancellation. A change can involve a fare difference, airline or supplier charges and a separately disclosed Flightoway service fee. Check all parts of the quotation before proceeding.

Changing or missing one segment can affect later flights on the same ticket. Ask whether remaining segments stay valid and whether separate tickets must be handled separately. A general inquiry does not authorize our team to cancel every traveler or segment.

4. Airline cancellations and passenger rights

When an airline cancels a flight or makes a significant change, applicable law may require a monetary refund if you do not accept alternative travel or a credit. The responsible party can depend on the itinerary and which business handled the ticket transaction.

Check your refund eligibility before accepting a voucher or replacement itinerary. Flightoway service terms do not override mandatory refund duties, including duties that apply to a ticket agent when applicable. Contact us to identify the provider handling your request.

5. The 24-hour distinction

The U.S. airline 24-hour refund or reservation rule does not automatically apply to tickets purchased through a travel agency or other third-party agent. Do not assume that a Flightoway request includes free cancellation within 24 hours. Review the conditions supplied for your specific booking and any applicable rights.

6. Refund amounts, fees and payment handling

Ask for a breakdown of recoverable airfare, taxes, unused extras and any applicable deductions. Agency service fees have their own disclosed conditions, subject to applicable law; they should not be hidden inside a statement that all payments are nonrefundable.

Refund processing should follow applicable requirements and the provider's confirmed process. We do not promise one universal completion time or use a general timing disclaimer to remove a statutory deadline. Keep the approval, amount and payment reference, and contact the responsible provider if the expected processing period has passed.

7. Travel credits and unused services

A credit may restrict the traveler, airline, route, booking channel and travel date. Confirm expiry, whether it applies to booking or travel, and whether fare differences or fees are payable when reused. A credit is not interchangeable with a cash refund.

Ask separately about unused baggage, seat assignments or other extras. Their treatment may differ from the ticket, and applicable law may require a refund for services not provided.

8. Confirmation, follow-up and records

Obtain written acknowledgment of an authorized change or cancellation and check what remains valid. A received inquiry, an authorized action and a completed supplier transaction are different statuses.

Retain your original itinerary, payment receipt, fare rules, supplier notices and request correspondence. For an unresolved case, contact us with these references and the outcome you seek. You may also pursue any complaint route or remedy available under applicable law.

Official guidance

For travel to, from or within the United States, consult the official guidance about refunds and the responsibilities of airlines and ticket agents. Your applicable statutory rights take precedence over conflicting booking terms. U.S. Department of Transportation refund guidance.
